Giving MW2 a roll

Infinity Ward's blockbuster Modern Warfare 2 and I have a kind of love/hate relationship. While I love the idea of a  competent, well designed modern military FPS, I dispise the thought of spending $60 for it. In addition, it is $60 to a company commited, not to making quality video games, but only to making money.

Lucky for me, Steam has temporarily alleviated this struggle. Starting tomorrow Steam is hosting a MW2 free weekend.
Maybe I'll find out that is it worth $60. However I highly doubt it will recieve a passing grade when ($0) games like League of Legends keep throwing off the bell curve.

Steam still won't let me pre-load it MW2 multiplayer like they promised. I blame the beta version I am using.

it looks like you are right to blame the Beta UI. Sounds like Steam is working on fixing it.
see here and here.

Yep, I had that problem... when I changed back to the old UI it downloaded just like it should.

Just as a side note, if you're looking for a competent First Person Shooter... Impulse has ArmA 2 for $20 off this weekend.  But then again there is a stand-alone expansion coming out for it soon as well.

I awoke this morning to a fresh new Steam update. Now it all works as it should.

It is not worth the price.  It is fun, but if I wanted to have 12 year olds kick my butt all day I would go back to school.  On the other hand if we would have played as a group and you know the guy or gal who had just shot you that would be different, I loved the kill Cam!  For one it was interesting to see how you got taken out, and it would prevent someone from camping in some hidden spot while you die trying to find them.    Ff it goes on sale I would consider it, but then only if I knew I was going to be playing with people I knew.  So probably won't be mine any time soon.

I'll probably do a full post about this soon, but in short I theroughly enjoyed my experience with MW2. I have to say that it is a very well thought out and implimented game. I especially love its eagerness to reward you for for doing terrible. I was dead last in every game I played, yet whenever I did get a kill, some crazy reward text would fly onto my screen telling me that I just did something it felt was awesome. I liken it to Peggle. Peggle for the violence inclined.

Modern Warfare 2 = Peggle with violence? I can't wait to hear more about this.

I too was rewarded for being not great… I love the achievement for most time spent watching the kill cam.  Because I died the most!
